Ogre’s comeback: A beloved return in 2026

The US animation studio DreamWorks announces that 'Shrek 5' is scheduled for release on July 1, 2026.

According to a media report, the main cast of the original 'Shrek', including Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, are all confirmed to return for the new instalment.

Walt Dohrn, who worked on the earlier Shrek movies, will direct this new animated fantasy.

Eddie Murphy, who voiced the fictional character Donkey in the original 'Shrek', let slip that he has already started recording his lines for the new animation. 

Since its release in 2001, the Shrek movies have enjoyed immense popularity. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a new Shrek film since the franchise's last instalment, which was released in 2010.

The plot for the new film is still under wraps.
